Our History

The Designers was incorporated in 1980 by Marilyn S. Hansen, who was the Director of Interior Design for J.L. Brandeis when it discontinued its furniture operation. The Designers’ first home was a 6,000 sq. ft. mansion in disrepair at 39th & Dodge. The team renovated and submitted their mansion as a National Historic Landmark, which received it’s designation in 1982.

The next 18 years were full of projects, large and small, community service projects, as well and an ASID Symphony Showhouse every year. The Designers trained over 100 Interior Design Interns from 1980 – 1998. Marilyn S. Hansen was chosen to head the Governor’s Residence Renovation in 1997-1998. This ASID endeavor was a $4.2 million success. She has continued her involvement in this project and was recently re-appointed in 2016.

In 1998 The Designers moved to 121st & Emmet Street. And in 2016, the firm moved again to its present location in Suite 260 at 9300 Underwood Avenue in Omaha, Nebraska.

Today, The Designers represents over 40 years in the profession of interior design, where they continue to design award-winning interiors, train interns yearly and assist in community service organizations. View our awards here.
